THE RULES

The Game

4v4 SPECS

Format: 4v4, no goalkeeper
Roster Recommendation: 8 players max
Expanded Roster: Participation Exceptions can be requested
Dimensions: Field 35x25 yards approx, goals 4' x 6' 
Game Length: 4 x 10 minute quarters, 60 second quarter break
Halftime: 5 minutes 
Soccer Ball: Size 3  

7v7 SPECS

Format: 7v7, Including Goalkeeper
Roster Recommendation: 12 players max
Expanded Roster: Participation Exceptions can be requested 

Dimensions: Field 40x60 yards approx, goals 7'x21' - 6'x18' 
Game Length: 2 x 25 minute halves
Halftime: 5 minutes 
Soccer Ball: Size 4 

Small Sided Universal Rules

NO HEADING 
NO SLIDE TACKLING (sliding is allowed, but not within or near opponents)
THROW-INS: ALL OUT OF TOUCH RESTARTS (across the sideline) begin with THROW-INS
BUILD OUT LINES - where teams retreat for any goalkick (4v4 or 7v7) or goalkeeper restart (7v7)

4v4 Specific RULES

Throw-Ins on Restarts:  Encourage Referees to provide 2 opportunities & to allow flexibility to the letter of the rule
Goalbox Rule:  There is a goalbox.  There is no enforceable rule for the goalbox.  Coaches are encouraged to not use a "goal tender". 
Build Out Line: The build out line is the halflline, the "retreat to" line for the defending team during goalkicks
Offside: There is no offside 
Goalscoring: Goals can be scored from anywhere on the field.

7v7 Specific RULES

Throw-Ins on Restarts:  Illegal throw-ins can become turnovers to the opponent. 
Goalkeeper No Punting:  Goalkeepers must roll, throw, or kick the ball back into play.  
Build Out Line: The build out line is the "retreat to" line for the defending team during goalkicks or goalkeeper's possession. 
Offside: Offside will be enforced using the Build Out Line as the beginning of Offside evaluation (instead of the halfline).
